Trip to Galdhøpiggen
Last week I went with my school on a geography trip. At first we went to Lillehammer, where we bought food for the next days and ate on Mc`Donalds. Then we drove for approximately two hours to a place named Hell (Helvete in Norwegian). The reason why we went to Hell, was that it is some exciting geological phenomena called "Jettegryter"- or potholes in English.
When we had been to the potholes we went to a place called Kvitskriuprestinn. I did not go there because of my bad knees, so I don`t know much about it compared to my classmates. But I know that there are some wery special columns made of dirt. When every one was back in the bus, we went to the camping place nearby the river Sjoa.
When we came to the camp, we put up the Lavvu. Then it was time to eat, and I had brought a big barbeque and some Tex Mex chicken wings with potato salad. It was absolutely fantastic with the meal after some long hours in a warm and exhausting bus. When we were finished eating, we went over to some cows that stood on a field and played with them for some time. Some time in the middle of the night, some of us went out of the tent to get some fresh air. We went over to a big lavvu and I went in first. Inside the lavvu it was a Norwegian badger.
Here is a picture of me from the trip. in the background you can see the tent.
In the morning we put on the wetsuits and went by bus up the river Sjoa. We put out the boats on the river and one of the guides held a security lesson. In the end of the lesson the guide made us pray to the river gods, the prayer was like this; "Dear river gods i will not try to put my feet to the bottom of the river, because then i will probably get stuck and die", and we repeated the prayer tree times. When he was finished talking, we rafted down the river. It was much cooler then I expected, mainly because one of the guys in our boat asked the guide if we could go "Hardcore", and we did go hardcore. When we had finished rafting I took a shower and put on some dry clothes.
After the rafting we drove for two hours with the bus to a mountian museum in Lom. We finished at the museum pretty fast and went to a snowdrift which had a tunnel all the way to the ground, where the ice was some thousand years old. It was freaking cold there. In the morning we put on the wetsuits and went by bus up the river Sjoa. We put out the boats on the river and one of the guides held a security lesson. The next morning every one except Per, Caroline and I, went to the top of Norways highest mountain. The mountain is called Galdhøpiggen. The others were away for like seven hours. In the meantime we were sitting in a cabin under the top of the mountian, waiting for the others to get back. Of course it was pretty boring sitting there for seven hours, but time passed suprisingly fast. Here is a picture of the Galdhøpiggen:
Early the day after, we packed our bags and went by bus back home.
It was a cool and exciting trip.
