Norwegian values

I think that there is a Norwegian dream, but it is not as obvious as the American dream. But it is a way other set of values than in America.

What Norwegians think:
I think that people in Norway “Wants to be like neighbor”. Most people do not want to get rich but the just want to be normal. They want a normal sized house, a nice car that is not too expensive or to cheap and to have a cottage in some nice place mountain with nice ski slopes and great hiking possibilities. I think that another part of the Norwegian dream is that the government will “fix our problems”. We have a good and organized welfare system that pick you up if you fall. The welfare system pays your hospital bills, send you to a shrink if you have psychological problems, it keeps you of the streets if you lose your job or get sick and ties to get you a new job that fits you. Aswell as the high taxes tries to keep “the  rich” form getting too rich. In a way, the whole society tries to move towards having a big middle class.

What the immigrants think:

We Norwegians may not think as much about it, but if you ask the immigrants they would probably answer that they came to Norway because of the democracy, the economy and the welfare. We have many immigrants in Norway that was granted political asylum because of things that may have happened back in their homelands. We think that these people came to Norway for our basic values and rights.

The highest priority for the Norwegian people is the democracy, and the right to vote and help to decide. The other things that we and the immigrants, think that is very important is how we treat new people and their rights to get all the good things as the other in Norway already have. Here in Norway, our highest priority is that everybody is worth just as much as everybody else.
