Norwegian values

I think that there is a Norwegian dream, but it is not as obvious as the American dream. But it is a way other set of values than in America.

What Norwegians think:
I think that people in Norway “Wants to be like neighbor”. Most people do not want to get rich but the just want to be normal. They want a normal sized house, a nice car that is not too expensive or to cheap and to have a cottage in some nice place mountain with nice ski slopes and great hiking possibilities. I think that another part of the Norwegian dream is that the government will “fix our problems”. We have a good and organized welfare system that pick you up if you fall. The welfare system pays your hospital bills, send you to a shrink if you have psychological problems, it keeps you of the streets if you lose your job or get sick and ties to get you a new job that fits you. Aswell as the high taxes tries to keep “the  rich” form getting too rich. In a way, the whole society tries to move towards having a big middle class.

What the immigrants think:

We Norwegians may not think as much about it, but if you ask the immigrants they would probably answer that they came to Norway because of the democracy, the economy and the welfare. We have many immigrants in Norway that was granted political asylum because of things that may have happened back in their homelands. We think that these people came to Norway for our basic values and rights.

The highest priority for the Norwegian people is the democracy, and the right to vote and help to decide. The other things that we and the immigrants, think that is very important is how we treat new people and their rights to get all the good things as the other in Norway already have. Here in Norway, our highest priority is that everybody is worth just as much as everybody else.

I hope you like this text.

Quote

Today I wrote my opinion  on a quote by Oscar Wilde.

Here is the Quote:
Most people are other people, their thoughts are someone elses opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passion a quotation.

I think the meaning behind the quote is that people don't have their own opinions, They live by other peoples opinions and try to live like them. I think that this quote is meant to try and make pople change and chage their opinions to their own.

Our road trip in the UK.

Hello everyone! Today I have to tell you about our amazing roadtrip in the UK! :)

On this road trip we drove a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro ss ZL1 with a turbo charged 580hp engine. In my opinion the car is fantastic. It does 0-60 in only 3,9 seconds. The interior is also very nice and the comfort is astonishing.

Here is a picture of the car.

Day 1:
We left Cardiff as soon as we rented the car. Then we drove our nice Camaro to LANG. LANG is a restaurant in The Shard, a viewing building in London.

We had a nice meal, it has a so nice view so we enjoyed our meal looking at beautiful London. After this meal, we went to Oxford to look at the nice streets, and we ate some Belgian waffles for dessert. Then we had to go to an intense football match! Arsenal - Real Madrid! The match was played at Emirates a BEAUTIFUL stadium.

The game ended 3-3. One of the most intense matches I have ever seen. After the match, we went to a pub. We felt that we had to drink some beer after this match! We went to the bar The Hoop and Grapes. We had a good time there, very fun! After this we went back to the hotel for a small drink.

We wore so tired after a long day with a lot of action, so we went to bed before a new exciting day. Corinthia Hotel London, was the hotel we slept in.

Day 2
We left London early in the morning. We were heading for Nottingham and then the plan was to stay there for some hours and then go to Liverpool where we would stay for two days. We drove for approximately three and a half hours to Nottingham. Nottingham is in the middle of England and not a too great of a detour. On the way out of London the traffic was heavy and there was a terrible queue. We realized that it was not really a smart move to book a hotel in the middle of a city with over eight million inhabitants who drive on the left side of the road. We were close to many accidents on our way, but fortunately we came out of the city alive.
We drove on the highway to Nottingham, with only some small stops to fill fuel and we ate once in in a café by the road. The food was terrible. We got some wet sandwiches with ham, cheese and some kind of very bad tasting omelette. When we finally arrived in Nottingham, we went to the Robin Hood museum. Vegard is a very big Robin Hood fan, so he loved the museum very much. We ended up spending so much time in the museum that we had to use much less time in the rest of Nottingham and go straight to Liverpool.
We arrived in Liverpool right before midnight and checked in to the hotel. We were very tired after the long ride but we convinced ourselves that is was the best if we could get something to eat. Per fell asleep just before we left so we had to wake him, but he refused to get out of the bed. I went with Vegard down to a kebab restaurant some blocks away.

John Lennons house.
The route for this day.

Day 3
We woke around eleven and missed the breakfast with only some minutes. We were looking forward to the football match that would happen later that night. We ate at some café and watched the local life. The streets were mostly empty but that was probably because it was in the middle of the week. When we had finished eating, we went to John Lennon’s home. It was cool to look at the place he grew up. The place crawled with tourists. After we finished, we went to some other café to have lunch. The food there was perfect. Eggs and bacon with a lot of other garniture. Then we went back to the hotel and got ready for the match.
The match began at half past eight. We came one hour before the match started, and we had booked premium tickets. The view from our seats was amazing. The match was Liverpool versus Barcelona. In the end, the score was 3-1 to Liverpool. When the match ended, we went back to the hotel because we had a long trip ahead of us the next day.

Day 4:
After 5 hours and 335 km on the road. We finally arrived to our final destination, Edinburgh, Scotland. We had big plans for this day. Edinburgh was a hectic city with much traffic and noise. We had to drive around the city in our yellow Camaro for a while to find our hotel, we had chosen Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian to be the best hotel in the city and this was the place, we would stay for the night. When we had parked our car, we walked to the hotel reception to check in. We had paid 4500 Norwegian kroners to get the best and biggest room. We were going to sleep well the last night of our trip.
After we had checked in, we went out to eat a burger on Mc Donald’s. We had planned that we should go and play some “bubble soccer”, this is a game of football, with a giant ball around your body, and you can bump as hard as you want into others without causing any damage on the other players. Sverre scored five goals in the match. We played football for 3 hours.

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, this is a Military musical spectacular filled with talented performers, pipes, drums, and visual lights and fireworks. This was the last thing we had planned to do this road trip. The location is magnificent; the weather was fine & warm. In addition, the artists & bands were extremely entertaining! After this amazing experience, we went back to our fantastic car and drove back to our hotel to get some sleep before our flight home the next morning.
This was an amazing show.
The Royal Military tattoo.

This is the distance we drove day 4 in our great muscle car.

Day 5:
This was our last day in UK, our flight were supposed to leave Edinburgh at 13.00. We had a lot to do before we went to the airport. First, we ate a fantastic breakfast at our hotel; it contained a lot of bacon, eggs and sausages. After the breakfast we carried our luggage to our yellow Camaro, before we drove to the place we had to give the car back to the rent company, we rented the car from. We found Avis after a while and delivered the car. At 11.00 we took a taxi to the airport. After an hour of waiting, we were told to board the plane. This was the end of the trip. It has been a lot of fun and we recommend everyone to do it.

This is our route for the road trip. It took a lot of time driving but it was fun and with good friends it was a very nice vacation.

How English became a world language

In only 400 years English went from being spoken by 4 million people to being spoken by 2 billion people.

England was invaded by many countries through the years, the invaders left a lot of new words there. England owned 1/4 of the world for some time with many colonies, and they made the people in the colonies speak English. England had a had a head start in the industrial revolution, which made them a even bigger super power. When England claimed a part of America and failed, a new English speaking super power was borne. When the internet came, English was the main language, which made it every internet users second language.

Trip

Today we went for a trip during the English lesson.
It was a long, long trip into the wild. The first i noticed was the good smell of the wet nature with a fresh wind blowing up on us. The night before, it had been raining and it was a thick fog in the morning. When we went for the trip the fog had just cleared out, which was still possible to feel. It was a usual Autumn wind and the leaves fell from the trees when the wind got stronger.
The rays of light where strong from the clear sky and they blended me. We went pass some construction machines and it smelled like hot oil and exhaust.

Quotes

Today we have been given a task to red some quotes and choss the one we like the best and write about it.

The one i chose is "When you teach your son, you teach your son`s son."

In my opinion this is the best one because it tells abot how the things you teach you children often stays with them for the rest of their lives. And if you teach some good life lessions to them they will maybe tell it further to their children. But i thinkt that it have some bad sides to. For exmple  if you are bad to your children, they will in a way become bad, which also can be learned to your grandchildren. Because if you are are bad to you children, they can get traumatised and they can be bad them selves having you as their role model.

It is also a good reason to keep your children from having dumb habits.

Trip to Galdhøpiggen

Last week I went with my school on a geography trip. At first we went to Lillehammer, where we bought food for the next days and ate on Mc`Donalds. Then we drove for approximately two hours to a place named Hell (Helvete in Norwegian). The reason why we went to Hell, was that it is some exciting geological phenomena called "Jettegryter"- or potholes in English.

When we had been to the potholes we went to a place called Kvitskriuprestinn. I did not go there because of my bad knees, so I don`t know much about it compared to my classmates. But I know that there are some wery special columns made of dirt. When every one was back in the bus, we went to the camping place nearby the river Sjoa.

When we came to the camp, we put up the Lavvu. Then it was time to eat, and  I had brought a big barbeque and some Tex Mex chicken wings with potato salad. It was absolutely fantastic with the meal after some long hours in a warm and exhausting bus. When we were finished eating, we went over to some cows that stood on a field and played with them for some time. Some time in the middle of the night, some of us went out of the tent to get some fresh air. We went over to a big lavvu and I went in first. Inside the lavvu it was a Norwegian badger.

Here is a picture of me from the trip. in the background you can see the tent.

In the morning we put on the wetsuits and went by bus up the river Sjoa. We put out the boats on the river and one of the guides held a security lesson. In the end of the lesson the guide made us pray to the river gods, the prayer was like this; "Dear river gods i will not try to put my feet to the bottom of the river, because then i will probably get stuck and die", and we  repeated the prayer tree times. When he was finished talking, we rafted down the river. It was much cooler then I expected, mainly because one of the guys in our boat asked the guide if we could go "Hardcore", and we did go hardcore. When we had finished rafting I took a shower and put on some dry clothes.

After the rafting we drove for two hours with the bus to a mountian museum in Lom. We finished at the museum pretty fast and went to a snowdrift which had a tunnel all the way to the ground, where the ice was some thousand years old. It was freaking cold there.

The next morning every one except Per, Caroline and I, went to the top of Norways highest mountain. The mountain is called Galdhøpiggen. The others were away for like seven hours. In the meantime we were sitting in a cabin under the top of the mountian, waiting for the others to get back. Of course it was pretty boring sitting there for seven hours, but time passed suprisingly fast. Here is a picture of the Galdhøpiggen:

Early the day after, we packed our bags and went by bus back home.

It was a cool and exciting trip.

Songs

Today we listened to tree songs in class, describing relationships

I am a Rock by Paul Simon

No Man is an Island by John Donne

You`ll Never Walk Alone by Rogers and Hammerstein

The person the song tells about tries to not connect with anyone. He is so afraid of loosing people that is important for him, that he just block them out. In the second paragraph he tells about how he has made walls over a long time that no one can penetrate. He compares himself with a rock or an island that fells no pain and never cries.

No Man is an Island

The first paragraph of the poem basically says that you are not alone. In the second paragraph it says that it matters if someone dies even dough they did not know each other because he is involved in mankind.

The song is about that after solving any problem you have it is something good waiting to happen. I think that the song is very motivating, and that is probably why Liverpool loves it so much.
